The 4th Street Studio and Gallery located at 125 North 4th Street in Manzanita has been providing the community a look at the talent of local and regional artists for over fifteen years. Owner and weaver Kathleen Kanas presents her natural fiber basketry amid paintings, stained glass, ceramics, semi-precious stone beaded jewelry, and mixed-media designs. People who venture in will find original oil paintings interpreting views of our local towns and beaches. Original acrylic and watercolor paintings depict garden floral, regional wildlife and landscapes. The "tiny art" is a must see while eye-catching ceramic platters, planters and vases make the visit worth its time.

Manzanita has been referred to by some who haunt galleries in the northwest as the "Carmel" of Oregon. At her studio and gallery on the North Oregon Coast, Kathleen weaves, coils and twines a large variety of styles and natural materials into exotic creations. Self-taught, Kathleen's fascination with basketry developed as a young child where grade school art activities formed the foundation for further exploration of materials and techniques, and trial and error became the process.

Raised in the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, while appreciating its bounty, has given Kathleen's basketry a unique emphasis. The pleasure of gathering materials from the environment, and satisfaction with an end product that is useful, as well as aesthetic, creates a personal interaction between Kathleen and her art.
